2014 Pinot Noir
We aim to make a well flavoured and beautifully textured wine with the distinctive varietal characters typical of the Pinot Noir grape.
We enjoyed another good season in 2013 with fine conditions during Spring and then particularly good weather through January and February. With the good weather and the low yields on our Porongurup vineyard, the fruit ripened with no disease risk and with good flavour development, and so we harvested in late February.
The Pinot was fermented in small open fermenters which were plunged by hand to gently extract the colour and flavour from the skins. Once pressed out, the wine was matured in new and older French oak barriques for 11 months before being bottled in February 2014.
Our 2013 Pinot is quite restrained; it has delicate aromatics of fresh ripe cherries and plums with some complexing smoky characters.
This wine has a fine palate with the sweet fruit flavours of ripe tamarillo, rich cherries and plum fruits. The lovely fresh fruit flavours are beautifully balanced by the gentle tannins, giving good length of flavour. Our 2013 Pinot is a fragrant wine with a fine acidity and a beautiful silkiness.
This wine can certainly be enjoyed now but we believe it will have good longevity and should continue to drink well past 2018. It would be particularly good served with any duck or pork dish that's not too strongly flavoured.
