2017 Sauvignon Blanc

We aim to produce a well flavoured, crisp dry Sauvignon Blanc with the attractive fruit characters typical of the variety and designed for current drinking.

It was a cooler vintage in the Great Southern in 2017 and this particularly suited the aromatic varieties like Sauvignon Blanc. The fruit ripened slowly, developing good flavour while still retaining its natural acidity. All the fruit is from Mt Barker vineyards; the moderate temperatures around picking time together with our usual cool night temperatures meant the delicate fruit aromatics and acidity were retained. Harvesting over a ~10 day period provides the balance between the crisp herbaceousness of the early picked fruit with the more tropical flavours from the slightly riper fruit. Only the free run juice was used and fermented at cool temperatures, retaining all the natural fruit flavours from the grapes.. 

AROMA

Has lovely fruit character without being too perfumed; has fresh,‘sweet green pea’ aromas with hints of sweet capsicum and super fresh fruit salad. 

 

PALATE

This is a delicious crisp dry white. Being a slightly cooler year the wine is quite restrained –especially for a Sauvignon Blanc! The fruit character is clean and fresh without being too overt. The wine still has nice weight and good length of flavour; it’s zesty, citrus characters give this wine its persistence and the clean acid finish means it can be enjoyed as an aperitif or served well chilled with just about anything.
