2014 'Mount Barker' Pinot Noir

 

It was a particularly good season in 2014 and we accessed an extra parcel of Pinot Noir grapes from Mt Barker to make this �single vineyard� wine.

The fruit was harvested in early March and fermented in small open fermenters and plunged by hand to gently extract the colour and flavour from the skins. Once pressed out, the wine was matured in new and older French oak barriques for 10 months before being bottled in Feb 2015.

AROMA

Our Mt Barker Pinot is richly aromatic with the cherry & dark plum fruit aromas typical of the variety along with complexing smoky oak characters and hints of spice..

PALATE

This Pinot is a little more strongly flavoured than our Porongurup version due to the slightly warmer growing conditions in Mt Barker. The fruit characters of ripe tamarillo, cherries & plums are complexed by the slightly charry oak flavours. This wine has good texture and balance with a little more tannin structure contributing to its good length of flavour.

CELLARING

This Mt Barker Pinot Noir is drinking well now and with its good depth of flavour it should continue to improve with a further 6 years bottle age. It would be particularly good served with a well flavoured mushroom dish or any duck or pork meal.
