2016 Cabernet Merlot
We source the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Merlot grapes from mature vineyards in the Great Southern. The moderate Mt Barker region and the slighter warmer Frankland River region are both highly regarded for their reds, especially Cabernet Sauvignon. This release is actually over 95% Cabernet Sauvignon this year as it was such a stand out variety in the season. It was generally a little cooler than the ‘14 vintage and as a result this wine is slightly finer in structure and is more typical of the Great Southern.
Deep, dark, purply red.
Loads of those typical ‘Cabernet’ fruit flavours of dark berry fruits, especially blackcurrants and blackberries. These rich fruit flavours are complemented by the French oak characters and together with the lightly drying tannins, have produced a well flavoured wine with good structure and length of flavour.
Can be enjoyed now with a full flavoured meal or leave in the cellar for a few years for further bottle age complexity.
