2015 PORONGURUP Shiraz
With all the fruit coming from our Gravel Pit vineyard in the Porongurup, we see a real ‘regionality’ in this wine as there is a delicacy and fragrancy in this Shiraz that tends to be exclusive to this subregion. The low yielding, mature vines produce fruit that is well coloured and flavoured. After fermentation, the wine spent 12 months in French oak (20% new with the balance once and twice used) before bottling in late May 2016.
Dense, dark, purply red.
Beautifully fragrant with spicy plum characters, hints of raspberry liquorice and exotic hints of star anise.
This is a medium bodied wine with a surprisingly generous palate weight. There is a definite spicyness on the palate with those raspberry liquorice flavours complexed by some delicate and fragrant characters of violets. With lovely mouth feel, this wine is balanced by the gently drying tannins giving good persistence of flavour.
A delicious wine already, our 2015 Shiraz will also continue to improve with further cellaring, e.g. 2 – 5 years for some bottle age complexity.
